A sharp rise in the number of human cases of Ross River virus (RRV) infection has been reported from the city of Cockburn, Perth, Western Australia.
Officials have reported 62 cases of RRV in Cockburn since 1 January 2012, almost three times the number of cases in 2011. There has been a similar rise across the state in the past two months with 511 cases since the beginning of the year, which is more than double the number of cases for the whole of 2010 (245).
