New cases of dengue fever have continued during the rainy season in Jamaica. As of 14 Sep 2012, 507 cases have been reported, of those, 180 have been confirmed as dengue fever. The situation is not yet considered to be an 'outbreak' however, cases are increasing.
The last outbreak of dengue fever in Jamaica was in 2007, when 1700 confirmed cases were recorded.

Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
