An outbreak of cholera has been reported on by the media. The outbreak is reported in Espaillat Province, in the north of the country. The worst affected area are: Las Amapolas, La Bandada, GuaucĂ Abajo, Paso de Moca, La Ermita, Cuero Duro and other communities at San Victor municipal district and Moca municipality.
A total of 35 cases have been confirmed out of more than 100 suspected cases. Thirty two cases remain in a critical condition in hospital.

Cholera vaccine is available for those mixing closely with the local population who cannot ensure safe water/food and a good standard of personal hygiene.
