The cholera outbreak in Kunene Region, northwestern Namibia is reported to be under control, although the number of cholera related deaths has risen to 15. The Ministry of Health and Social Services has recorded a total of 453 suspected cases since the outbreak began, early January 2014.
Field workers in affected areas continue to provide health education, distribution of water purification kits and oral dehydration solutions, surveillance of the disease, referral of community members to health facilities.

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
