Dengue Fever in Malaysia (Update)

Dengue fever is an ongoing problem in Malaysia. During January-February 2015, 25 000 cases of dengue fever were reported with 62 fatalities. In 2014, 100 000 cases, including 189 fatalities were reported nationally in Malaysia.

The worst affected area is the state of Selangor in peninsular Malaysia with 15 000 cases, which equates to 6 out of 10 cases reported nationally.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
