West Nile Virus in Italy

Italy has reported 3 cases of neuroinvasive West Nile virus infection from two provinces: Treviso (2 cases) and Venezia (1 case). However, confirmation by the National Institute of Health is still pending.

Advice for Travellers

West Nile virus is spread by mosquito bites. It has become more widely recognised in Europe in recent years. Travellers should take precautions to prevent mosquito bites especially during summer months.
