Cholera in Cameroon

The charity, Plan International, reports that cholera has infected more than 20 000 individuals including 765 deaths in Cameroon this year, as of 18 Oct 2011. This includes 3000 cholera cases and 64 deaths in the Littoral region. Cameroon is one of the countries worst affected by a cholera epidemic that has infected around 85 000 individuals and resulted in almost 2500 deaths in West and Central Africa so far this year (2011), according to the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population, and cannot ensure safe drinking water, can be immunised against cholera.
